Mike Bibby traded to Hawks
Saturday, February 16th, 2008
Mike Bibby is now a Hawk. Here’s the breakdown:
Hawks get:
- Mike Bibby
Kings get:
- Anthony Johnson
- Tyronn Lue
- Shelden Williams
- Lorenzen Wright
- 2008 second round draft pick

I’m on the fence about the trade. Firstly, it’s lop-sided — not nearly as lop-sided as the Garnett trade, but still lop-sided nonetheless. Secondly, I think the Hawks should be rebuilding at this stage of the game. They’re 21-28 thus far this season. Bibby will give the Hawks a solid lineup as well as the push they need to get into the playoffs and over the .500 mark. But what else? Their lineup will be something like:
- PG: Mike Bibby
- SG: Joe Johnson
- SF: Josh Smith
- PF: Marvin Williams
- C: Al Horford
The Hawks still have work to do if they want to be a contender. I think that over time, they’ll get better — while Mike Bibby gets older. Get my drift? I really would’ve liked to see the Hawks get a younger point guard that could have developed alongside the guys they have right now.
As for the Kings: Aren’t they supposed to be rebuilding, like the Hawks? Sure they have the right idea in acquiring some younger guys (sans Anthony Johnson) and a 2nd round draft pick, but it would’ve done wonders for them long-term to land Marvin Williams out of the deal. I doubt any of the 4 guys the Kings acquired are going to be significant contributers to the team now or in the future. Bibby for Williams straight-up would’ve been a great trade for the Kings.
In summary: Could’ve been worse, but I’d say the Hawks came out on top with this one.
